R U Kidding?

The line between all things paranormal and foolishness is pretty blurry at times, but this article seems to tax even the most liberal minded. A quick review:
Is that a rock or a man on Mars?
The mysterious figure was spotted in the lower left of this section of a panorama taken by Spirit just before it sought shelter from the Martian winter. Spirit has been on the Martian surface for more than four years. At a first casual glance, things appeared hopeful, even for this skeptic.
When examining this photo, the first thing that should come to mind is this: what is the scale of the objects we're viewing and what the hell are the solar cells contributing to the panorama? Do the folks that scrutinize these things eventually go crazy and have visions? Or does their anti-psychotic drugs work for them?
When you move in on the bottom left quadrant and enlarge it beyond belief, there it is. The big letdown. Proof of man's past existence on mars is going to require more than this. Pictures of Big Foot, the Loch Ness monster, and the Face on Mars may have become the poster children of the paranormal, but this isn't even in the running.
Contained in a January 25 email update, a NASA spokesman said that the "man" on Mars is actually "a 2-inch sedimentary rock that has been eroded by the wind." What, it's another optical illusion? My bubble of hope has been burst.
We need to thank Caltech/Cornell University for shedding some sanity to this article.
Why do these things keep cropping up with such regularity? There doesn't seem to be any escape from this speculation.
No matter, I'm outta here.
