Healing Power of Cats

July 10th 2008 20:08
Skyrun4, a new entrant into the wide world of Orble has been a friend of mine for year’s n years and I’ve invited her to share her thoughts with us. We’ve known each other since I last had hair that could honestly be combed; yup, that long. She loves paranormal stuff as do I, so hopefully, she’ll hang out with us while contributing stories to amaze and delight us all.

While she and I were chatting, an interesting topic came up; the healing power of cats.

How is it that some of these seemingly distant, arrogant, aloof feline aliens can tune into their humans and know when they are sick or even dying? Who even knew that they cared about anything other than a clean litterbox, fresh water, copious amounts of food and full body massages when and where they want them.

But, our Siberian cat and mentor, Medford, knows when Tisha and I aren’t feeling well. When that is the case, he’ll take action to help by physically laying on our stomachs or chests and purring. It puts us in a calmer less stressful state and has us nodding out, getting rest the body needs. If it’s just irritability, he’ll hop up for pets and rubs, and soon everyone is less irritable. When I bang myself up working, usually my right hand and wrist, he will lay on it and purr until the pain is gone, then get up and go do his cat things. Odd eh?

Are cats conspiring to take over the world by lulling the human race to sleep and into a false sense of security with their purr therapy?

They are after all, very gifted psychics and manipulative as I’ve learned over the years.

He has the missus and I competing for his attention and affections; could this lead to other odd behaviors?

What are your cat stories?

Raven

Awww, this was a fantastic post!

I sincerely believe that cats are one of God's gifts to us, they are so serene and gentle. Sometimes when you look into their eyes they seem like such old souls.

Get a dog if you want a yes man. I will stick with the kitties!

Go the cats, vote 1 Medford.

I have experienced this phenomenon, too. I was just recommending a cat to my brother, to-day, for such purposes, but they are fun, too, and often just nice to look at.

I'm sure one of my cats could read my mind. I think she knew more than I do about Me.

Good post, Raven, slowly catching up.

Medford is quite the friend, during the night he'll come in to 'check' on us while we're sleeping and give us a sniff check. He hasn't tried to bury me yet so I know my hygiene is good. He's very fussy about scents, his nap blanket needs weekly washings or he won't use it, and lord knows if a visiting critter touches his fluffy ~ it gets washed.

He's an entertaining house mate that's for sure, your brother would probably like one of the fur balls, I know that I do.

I too have experienced the PURRRRRRR healing. When I am sick or stressed Gizmo, my older girl kittie will lay by me or on me. She has a LOUD purr which is so soothing. I have noticed the calming effect of kitty purrs for years now. It is to counteract the intense rise of blood pressure they give us through their sometimes naughty antics!

It is truly amazing Sky, that purrrr-ing can have such a profound and restorative affect; now about those self emptying litter boxes . . .

Its quite smple Raven, really. They love us, but they love themselves more, so when we are sick, its more a case of, "well, geez. Im going to have to use some of MY precious energy to fix my stupid human now, or I'll be out hunting like a chump"

We just adopted a lovely young feral we have named Juliet. She's had four beautiful kittens in our garden shed. We already have five house kittys.....And now I want the other family too. What am I going to do?

Provide food, water and shelter, and they'll reward you for the effort. Can you find home for some of them?

You could be right about cats protecting their own interests by helping their humans stay healthy.

Im trying to find a home for them. Juliet can stay and be our outdoor kitty, and I dont really mind if some of the babies do....One of them is quite a rare and beautiful colour. But I say again - we have to move!

Oh dont worry Raven, if I dont have homes for them I'll bring them all. I was actually just down in the shed having a look - smart mommy kitty, she had them in a box full of fabric scraps inside a bookshelf, very warm and dry - all four have their eyes open, one gorgeous little tyke hissed at me. How sweet! By next weekend I will be desperately trying to keep them from the horses feet!

But the universe knows what its doing, alright. Land a high paying job....Get paid.....Here, have 5 cats to desex. Yeeha.

I meant we have to move for Zayfe, and now we have a double reason.....

When we talking about cats, its mostly related with the mysteries and paranormal stuffs...

According to the Eastern countries (China) traditional believe, if a cat jumping across a dead person that waiting for a buried, the person will be alive again, but as a walking zombie...It's up to you, whether you want to believe it or not...
